General
Donor recognition trees are available in a variety of designs and materials to suit any environment.

Tree Trunks

Traditional
The three traditional trunk designs are sculpted in bas relief and sand cast in solid bronze. See Cast Plaque Materials for alloy information.
Weight: approximately 85 pounds.

As an option, the traditional trunk may also be cast from solid aluminum.
Weight: approximately 30 pounds.

Contemporary
The contemporary design is cut from �" yellow brass plate, Copper Development Association alloy C26000. The brass plate is satin finished and coated with protective lacquer.
Weight: approximately 80 pounds.

Stones & Leaves

Stones
The base material of all stones is solid cast bronze with an antique hand rubbed finish. The removable plate is cut from .020" leaded brass with a satin grain finish and a clear protective lacquer coating suitable for engraving.

Leaves
The removable leaves on all Matthews tree tops and keepsake trees are die cut from .020" leaded brass with a satin grain finish and a clear protective lacquer coating suitable for engraving.

Acrylic Tree Tops
The tops of all Matthews Donor Recognition Trees are fabricated from �" thick clear acrylic sheet. The acrylic is predrilled and tapped to accept the small brass machine screws that attach the leaves to the tree top.

Optional materials for the tree tops include solar bronze and solar gray acrylic tops ("smoked" acrylic) in the following shades:

  • #2539 Solar Bronze
  • #2514 Solar Gray

Helpful Hints

  • All Matthews Donor Recognition Trees are designed for interior use only.

  • If the recognition program is underway prior to ordering the tree, we can ship all or some of the leaves in advance. That way, the leaves may be engraved and returned to us for attachment to the tree.

  • All trees are shipped in wood crates because of their weight and size. For estimated shipping costs, please allow 300 lbs. as an average crated weight.

Cast plaques are manufactured using sand molds in our state-of-the-art foundry from raw ingot alloyed in the following materials:

Cast Bronze
Equivalent to Copper Development
Association Alloy C92200;
88% copper, 6% tin, 4% , 2% lead.
Cast Aluminum
Cast from Aluminum Association
Association Alloy Designation C443.2.

Helpful Hints

  • Bronze castings are the material of choice for interior as well as exterior applications. Although the finish of bronze will naturally patina over time, the material itself will not deteriorate. Objects made from bronze have been found submerged in seawater for over 3000 years still in excellent condition.

  • The weight of a bronze plaque may be roughly estimated by calculating the plaque's volume in inches (height x width x depth) x .31. For most smaller plaques (under 36" x 30") allow .25" as the approximate depth. Use .375" for plaques over 36" x 30".

    Example: For a 36" x 24" plaque calculate 36" x 24" x .25" = 216 cu. inches x .31 = 66.96. The plaque's estimated weight would be 67 lbs.

  • An aluminum plaque is approximately 1/3rd the weight of a comparable sized bronze plaque. In the above example, simply divide the answer by 3. A 36" x 24" aluminum plaque weighs approximately 23 lbs.
